    Description

This is an exceptional quilt, and an outstanding opportunity for collectors, fans of  Americana or antique textiles to acquire a one of a kind heirloom quilt. No stains,  no rips,  In phenomenal condition considering it is almost a 100 years old. This quilt is 71" across and 84" in length, suitable for a double or Queen size bed. It is photographed on a Queen size bed. A sleeve has been sewn onto the back for hanging display, quite possibly featured at the quilter's hall of fame. Please see photographs for measurements and condition.
The blocks that create the donkeys were meticulously sewn together by hand.  It is hand  Quilted, and what we look for when establishing value is eveness of the stitches, how many stitches there are per inch, and how close the lines of stitching are to each other. There there are 8 to 9 stitches per inch in this quilt, which is outstanding. The lines of stitching are only an inch apart, again this is excellent, and the lines of stitching are beautifully straight and even.
Another factor taken into consideration when establishing value of an antique quilt is the story behind the pattern. In 1931 Brackman published  a quilt pattern that featured an elephant.  Democrats demanded equality and and the company published this pattern, called "Giddap, a Very Democratic Donkey",  just in time for the 1932 election.  This is the best example I've seen.
Lastly, provenance.  Collectors want to know where the quilt came from, it's history, and who made it.  I'm proud to tell you about the artist who created this quilt. Her name is Arene Burgess and her work is without peer. She was a prolific quilter, often producing items that were displayed, then put away for preservation. She was a Quilt Historian, teacher of quilting and applique. Arene's work is featured in the Quilters Hall of Fame, in Marie Webster's Arene Burgess Collection. Sadly, Arene  passed away recently and her family has made the difficult decision to make some of her quilts available for sale. You won't find many opportunities like this.
Heads up collectors, and others of impeccable taste. You will not find a finer example of an American Masterpiece created by a true American Textile Artist. This beautiful quilt can be passed down for generations and is a stunning heirloom piece.
