Listing Title:ORIGINALS of DREMEL Model 1672 16" Scroll Saw Owner's Manual MINT + Parts List
Notes on Listing Title:
The word "ORIGINALS" is as simple and obvious as it looks. You're getting the two actual original documents, not scanned copies.
See the listing photos, and the details below, on Condition as to why I've used the word "MINT" for the Manual, but not for the Parts List (not a big deal, it's a "looks only" issue not affecting readability of the separate Parts List document).
Note that the quantity on this listing is "1", meaning "1 lot of 2 different documents" as described here.
Notes on Photos:
The listing photos were taken using a cell phone's built in camera so they aren't as sharp as scans would be. But these are the original manual and parts list. I may at some point replace the photos with flat bed scans showing the same "view angles" as the cell phone photos but higher quality images. But please don't assume that just because some images aren't "razor sharp" that these aren't the originals I say they are. It's just that it's a lot easier to use the cell phone with the eBay listing app, then go back and add text using a PC and keyboard.
Notes on eBay's "Selling Category":
EBay requires sellers to choose 1 or more "selling categories" under which items can be sold on its site. Sellers have to choose one (or more than one, for additional fees paid to eBay) created by eBay, as far as I know, rather than making up one the seller believe makes more sense. You may have noticed that these documents are being sold under the "selling category" of "
Business & Industrial > CNC, Metalworking & Manufacturing > Woodworking Manuals & Books", because that category was by far the closest I could find to what's actually being sold here. Despite that, I would assume that at least some materials other than "wood" can be cut, shaped, etc. with this shop tool. And I'm sure that you don't have to be in a "business" or "industry" to own and use the scrolling saw to which the manual and parts list being sold here refer (I did some crafts projects when I was around 8 years old with a smaller simpler version of a powered scrolling saw than this one), nor do you (as long as you follow common sense, plus what's said in the manual) have to limit yourself to working in (or on) "wood". My own common sense would, for example, suggest that you not try to use a Dremel 1672 scrolling saw, which I would assume uses a much finer and thinner blade than a typical "band saw" would, to try to make a straight cut through a hardwood (e.g. walnut) "two by four", for example, if you could even fit one into the cutting area, without first checking what the manual says the Dremel 1672 is capable of cutting through.
CONDITION
The following language is a word for word copy of a section located closer to the top of this listing, in a limited space provided by eBay for sellers of items that are not literally "brand new" to provide a short statement about the condition of what's being sold in a listing. Sometimes it's all that needs to be said, though in many of my listings, as I've done here with a single added sentence about document dating, I do add additional text in this "main" part of the Item Description to supplement the earlier appearing "Condition Description". Either way, if you've already read that earlier copy of this statement, I'm showing the the rest of this section in "
italics
" to make it easier for you to skip if you don't want to read through it a second time:
This manual (05/95) and parts list (06/95) come from the prior owner of a Dremel 1672 scroll saw.
The condition is excellent for the manual ("MINT") -- no signs of use (no notes, underlines, dog-eared page corners, etc.).
The condition is "Good" for the 2-sided parts list. It does have slight folds. Its most serious "issue" is a "grease spot" in 1 corner. It appears that a fleck of something e.g. food landed on the back side, and grease soaked out of it leaving a small stained area around it. The last photo on this listing clearly shows this. But for that, I'd rate the parts list page "Very Good".
I have put the manual and the list into a protective plastic bag pending shipment to the buyer, and while I doubt there's any grease left in that fleck, I folded a paper towel around that area to make it even less likely that the stain on the parts list can somehow transfer some of itself onto an outer page of the manual.
PS I didn't actually end up with the Dremel itself or any parts for it.
THESE ARE ACTUAL ORIGINALS OF THE MANUAL AND PARTS LIST
Unlike many listings of manuals and the like you may find on eBay, this is not a "home made" scanned copy, of what might not even be an original, that the seller is using as a "master copy", which will likely in many instances be a copyright violation. I've seen listings for documents like this where the sellers make general statements about "not being in violation" of anything, but call me a skeptic if you like, I really wonder whether companies (and odds are that if you're reading this, you'd know that the Dremel company is still very much alive) grant permission to have their work copied and made a source of income for others. If those issues matter to you, I hope you'll go for the "real thing" and buy these original documents from me!
I'm actually pricing this at .99, below the .50 that at least one current eBay seller is asking (and getting) for copies they have made of these items. It sounds like they go to a lot of work with some of their reproductions, including removing marks from the scanned copies they've made of the originals by using editing software. But I've already checked every page of the manual and there was no need to do any of that -- it's that clean! (As mentioned above, the parts list
And as mentioned above, it's a very good idea to have the manual to refer to when determining what you should, and shouldn't, expect of a Dremel 1672 scrolling saw. As the saying goes, "RTFM" (which for a "G rated" audience I'll translate as "Read The Friendly Manual").
SHIPPING:
WE GET YOUR ITEM QUICKLY TO THE CHOSEN SHIPPING SERVICE AFTER PAYMENT:
Our commitment on this sale is to get your item(s) to the shipper within one business day after payment is completed. And if a buyer is able to get payment completed by 11am California time on a non-holiday weekday (Mondays through Fridays), we are often able to ship the same day as paid. We may ship the same day as paid even if paid later, but the later in the day payment is made, the less likely same day shipment can take place. Depending on circumstances at this end and what shipment method applies, we may even be able to do "same day as paid" shipping on a Saturday, though our local USPS (often, but not always, the method and location of where and how we ship) closes at 4pm Saturdays (vs. 5pm on weekday business days).
Since only one person here takes care of shipping (and just about anything else), we can't literally promise in advance to achieve same-day-as-paid shipping, since things can always "come up" to prevent that for a smaller operator like us. We do, however, ship the same day as paid when we can, especially when it comes to relatively small size shipping packages and/or if a buyer is concerned enough about when they'd get their item to choose the Priority Mail option spelled out below), and our feedback shows that our customers appreciate the extra effort.
Please note that since the appointment of the current Postmaster General of the US in mid-2020 (who may remain in that post for as much as about 2 more years if he chooses to since it's not as easy for a new President to "fire" a Postmaster General as it is to fire some others appointed to positions in government service), there have been claims made that mail service is slower and/or less reliable than before. In fact, in mid-2021 has USPS is proposing to extend some of its estimated delivery times. This is something that is obviously beyond our control. All we can do at our end is make sure that the mailing takes place by the local pickup cutoff time for the date that we place an item into the hands of the USPS. These days that almost always literally means "into the hands" because whenever possible, we'll actually mail (when shipping by mail) at a USPS staffed retail postal center, so that we can actually see your item scanned by a clerk, and get a paper receipt on the spot, due to unexpected delays we've seen since around June 2020, not only in how long an item spends in transit, but also how long it takes for "tracking results" to show up.
Combined with the current health care crisis, we are all operating in uncertain times, which may also affect other delivery services (carriers) besides the USPS as well, so please "don't shoot the messenger": As long as we hand off your purchase to a shipper as quickly as we've committed ourselves to do, please don't "ding" us with a lower rating for what may happen afterwards due to things beyond our control -- and also remember that if you opt for "free shipping", that often means we'll choose the cheapest delivery service that meets the delivery standards set by ebay for the kind of free shipping commitment we made in a listing. Thank you for your understanding!
FREE "ECONOMY CLASS" SHIPPING (read about possibly combined shipping that might get your purchase to you sooner):
eBay defines "Economy Class" as meaning a shipping service that is supposed to get a buyer's item to them within 10 business days after being given to the shipper by the ebay seller (which we would do within 1 business day after payment was completed). In this case, for Free Shipping, we'll be using "USPS Media Mail", which is about the slowest (and not surprisingly the cheapest) domestic shipping service the USPS offers.
Note that if you will be buying anything else from us that would ship via a more speedy method, we may be able to combine this shipment with that one at no added cost. So you might want to wait a few hours before paying for your items (which you can do right after buying, when you get an automatic "payment reminder" from eBay faster than I could possibly send you an invoice) to see if I send you a combined invoice for your purchases. Most of the time I'll send you an invoice within 2 hours, often much faster, after you buy, if you buy between 6am-10pm Mondays through Fridays; might take a little longer on weekends and legal holidays.
YOUR OPTIONS TO UPGRADE TO FASTER SHIP
PING VIA USPS FIRST CLASS MAIL FOR EXTRA OR TO USPS PRIORITY MAIL FOR EXTRA:
You can decide at time of checkout to pay extra for us to ship via USPS Priority Mail if you're in a hurry. Please note that we are referring here to "USPS Priority Mail", not the much more expensive "USPS Priority Mail Express" service (formerly known as "Express Mail").
If in less of a hurry, for .00 we can upgrade you to USPS First Class Mail which typically takes no more than 5 business days time in transit.
Note that for some unknown reason, eBay says that First Class Mail will take 1 to 5 days once shipped, while Priority Mail will take 2 to 5 days once shipped. We have no idea how they came up with those figures. But we can tell you that based on our 20+ years on eBay, with the possible exception of items to be shipped less than 400 miles where First Class Mail might take about the same time in transit, Priority Mail will almost always be delivered in 2 to 3 business days (postal holidays, and Sundays, where there is no mail delivery, not counted in either First Class or Priority Mail estimated shipping periods).
And please note that the upgrade fees mentioned above represent the approximate difference between the Media Mail cost, and the First Class or Priority Mail cost. I'm giving you a break on the actual costs for First Class or Priority Mail, not simply giving you Free Shipping on Media Mail, but charging you the full cost for First Class or Priority Mail. Since I'm already "on the hook" for the full out of pocket cost for Media Mail, I don't think it's fair to charge you my full out of pocket cost for First Class or Priority Mail.
PLEASE READ PROVISIONS ABOUT WHERE WE SHIP
: Our listing contains limitations on where we ship to. In general, that means we ship
to the "United States" but that term only is guaranteed in all of our listings where no specific provision is included that we would ship anywhere else, to mean the "48 Continental United States", meaning the 48 States that each touch at least 1 other State of the United States. Many of our listings also show that we ship to Alaska and Hawaii as well. But our listings almost always do not provide that we ship to other locations, such as Puerto Rico or American Samoa, that a broad definition of "United States" might include. Also, in the location where eBay will automatically spell out for you the places we don't ship to, some terms displayed there, such as "Central America and Caribbean", have "surprise" inclusions that aren't spelled out, such as eBay placing Puerto Rico under how eBay defines "Central America and Caribbean", which once led to a dispute with a buyer who made an offer disclosing an intended ship-to address of a city in Florida, but then after the sale for the first time asked me to ship to Puerto Rico rather than to Florida. He insisted that the listing did not "exclude" Puerto Rico, but after I explained to him that he'd both tried to change the ship-to address without warning me in advance, and that eBay itself "buried" Puerto Rico within "Central American and Caribbean", he then asked me to cancel the sale and refund his purchase price, which I did do. That one dispute is the only reason we are now including this paragraph in the hope that we won't end up in a similar dispute with a buyer. If in doubt about whether your location is one to which we ship, please ask us before buying; we respond to most inquiries within 4 business hours.
RETURNS IN GENERAL
:
Please be sure to save all shipping and packing materials (box, padding, etc.) for the length of the potential return period, in the event a return is to take place. If you have any questions at all about the condition of the materials, however, please contact us first to confirm that we would authorize you to re-use those materials in returning an item to us, since sometimes those materials get chewed up enough during initial delivery that they need to be repaired or replaced before being re-used.
BUYER NO-FAULT RETURNS
: 30 calendar day return time, running from date of first attempt at delivery by the chosen shipper to your ebay verified shipping address, if you return these for any or no reason in the same condition as sent, at your expense. However, if you do something that damages what we're selling here, e.g., if you spill your drink onto either or both of these, that is a good example of something that would not qualify as a "BUYER NO-FAULT RETURN".
CLAIMED SELLER FAULT RETURNS:
Ebay lets you return almost anything within 30 days after receiving it, if what was purchased is not what the listing represented it to be, no matter what limitations a seller may try to put on the reasons for return (and many do). Please see exact details as provided by eBay at the top of this listing. To the extent that ebay allows it, you must use a shipping class and type that costs no more than what we used to ship your item(s) to you.
SALES TAX ISSUES: (A) Exemption Claim; (B) EBAY'S POLICY SINCE JANUARY 2019 REGARDING CHARGING SALES TAX ON INTERNET SALES
:
A. Exemption: As of the date of this listing, if you are a reseller qualified for this item to be exempt from automatic state sales tax collection by eBay (see "(B)" below)
, if you think eBay might automatically add sa
les tax here, please contact eBay and/or check with us before you bid about filing any required exemption forms to seek. Be sure to take care of this before you pay, since (a) we never see that tax money, so can't refund what we never had, and (b) we are not in a position to be your "advocate" in dealing with dozens of different state laws and requirements to allow sales tax not to be paid. Note that we can't allow nonpayment to go on indefinitely while you do what you need to do to try to avoid paying sales tax, which is why we are letting you know about this issue before you buy.
B. For all buyers: On January 3, 2019, we received the following message from eBay about sales tax collection:
"If you sell to buyers in the US, some states may require you to collect applicable Internet Sales Tax on your transactions. In such cases, eBay calculates, collects, and remits Internet Sales Tax for orders shipped to customers on your behalf. After we collect state Internet Sales Tax, you do not need to take any action. There are no extra charges or fees for this service. Learn more about Internet Sales Tax on our Help pages."
We aren't 'tax experts', but what we think the above basically means is that if you buy something on eBay that you would have had to pay sales tax on, if you'd bought it instead from a local store like a Best B
uy
store, etc., in your state, eBay might now add your state's sales tax to your purchase price. EBay would then send that tax money, that was part of the total that eBay had you pay, to your state.
We never see that money, so can't "refund" it. Even if you told us before you purchased the item, and sent us documentation to prove such exempt status, we as the seller have no way to stop eBay from adding state sales tax to what you bought. And even if you sent us documentation before or after the purchase, as some sellers have done with us in the past, and asked us either to refund the amount of tax paid, or if not yet paid, ask us to custom create an invoice that does not charge tax, our experience is that eBay will add tax anyway.
Some states may provide a way on your tax return forms to request a sales tax refund.
Please contact eBay if you have any questions about these sales tax issues.
