Harry Frank "Jim" Broadbent (1910 – 1958) had set several solo speed records on the England-Australia route through 1930s.  In 1958 he disappeared  while attempting another daring flight'
Autographed cover shown was carried on Broadbent's March 1938 England – Australia speed record attempt that ended in a forced landing at Flores Island, Indonesia.  Eustis  798;  Muller 381.

NOTE: Not discouraged by the crash, Broadbent had repaired his plane (Vega Gull, G-AFEH), and flew back to England for yet another attempt.  On the second try he had succeeded in setting the new England – Australia speed record (Lympne to Darwin in 5 days, 4 hours).
