His
story begins prior to WWII, then laces through midcentury historical events which frame the time of its telling. It is a true story which spanned 20 years of research and development to bring to life. Twentieth Century America was the most dynamic era in the history of mankind; from the fabric and wood of the Wright Brothers Flyer to the Atlas Rocket ride to the moon. Social, technological, and medical achievements also accelerated to redefine human life on earth. Starting in his Evanston, Illinois basement, John Hardin Miller and his products grew in concert with this evolution, populating every town’s dime store to become a significant thread in that fabric of time.
His father had dubbed him as his Little Tike. The name stuck. Tike Miller and his wife Shirley shared a tantalizing relationship in college, secretly marrying during a Thanksgiving break. Their union lasted over a lifetime of social and economic agony and ecstasy with his inventive genius always paving the way to new opportunity. Tike’s brothers, Max and Gene, as well as an astute business manager in concert with renowned artists and fabricators, all synchronized to assure his dime store success as well as creating new enterprises including, Mold-A-Rama in Disneyland, Scatrack, The Golden Goat and drawing in celebrities of the era from the Indianapolis 500, CBS’s Walter Cronkite, ABC’s Geraldo Rivera as well as press commentary in the Wall Street Journal. Tike was involved in both the 1938 and 1964 World’s Fair and founded Future Olympic Champions of the United States for the 1956 Summer Olympic Games.
His Dime Store Dynasty evolved from humble beginnings in Evanston, to Chicago to his flagship factories in Quincy, Illinois. He expanded to Manati, Puerto Rico, Scottsdale, Arizona, Colby, Kansas, Golden, Colorado and Fresno, California. His legacy continues today with millions of his dime store creations shared by collectors and in Easter and Christmas Nativity heirloom home displays. His Mold A Rama®
[1]
creation perpetuates too as do spinoff companies of Moldville and Mold A Matic to the delight of millions of young and old fans.
