    Description

Chucko the Birthday Clown 1960 Christmas Toys for Tots Los Angeles Sports Arena
Chucko the Birthday Clown 1960 Christmas Toys for Tots Los Angeles Sports Arena
Historic Television Memorabilia Auctions by Saturday's Toys presents...
a vintage 8" x 10" black and white photograph of "Chucko the Birthday Clown" serving as host and MC for the annual Toys for Tots Christmas spectacular in Los Angeles.
Held at the newly constructed Los Angeles Sports Arena (designed by Louis M. Naidorf; architect and designer of the Capitol Records building), Chucko represented ABC Television in treating the children of Los Angeles to an afternoon of holiday fun.
The show included television and movie stars including the cast of Bonanza, Tony Dow (Leave it to Beaver), My Three Sons, The Real McCoys (Walter Brennan) and Dennis the Menace (Jay North).
Here, Chuck is greeted by his fellow clowns in a 1909 Ford Model T with a California Horseless Carriage license plate from 1956... noted as license # 1958.
While the car appears to carry Emmett Kelly in the back seat... in reality, it was a look-alike... as Emmett Kelly always wore a neck tie with his costume.  Still, the look on the faces of the children makes it clear that this was an exciting occasion for the kids of Los Angeles!
No markings or watermarks on reverse of photo.

    Saturday’s Toys and Disneyana Auctions
was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and Disney historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first Disneyana specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 10,000 coveted Disney treasures since then, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers, collectors and friends throughout the world with a shared interest in the preservation of authentic and accurate Disney history.
Today, online offerings of archival Disneyana keepsakes are presented in celebration of the extended times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately known as "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a tip of the cap to the Sherman Brothers):
"Oh, let's go fly a kite!"
